Abortion
Abortion has grown to become one of the touchiest issues in contemporary politics. Despite the massive amounts of misinformation that have spread amongst the population, the Constitution does not provide the federal government any sort of jurisdiction over abortion, and thus it is not for the government to either allow or ban abortion. A resounding number of people believe that court decisions dealing with the matter, such as the court case Roe vs. Wade, which restricted the ability for states to have a say in abortion matters, should be overturned.

ABORTION IS WRONG AND SHOULD NOT BE IN OUR VOCABULARY!!

ONLY 50% OF THE PEOPLE THAT ENTER AN ABORTION CLINIC COME OUT ALIVE!!!
By jessica on Oct 30, 2008
You pretty much talked around this issue. It’s a touchy issue but you should at least say what you plan to do. Overturn the case to make it illegal or keep it in place, or let each state decide? Pick a side.
By Kristen on Oct 31, 2008
Jessica you need more of a nopen mind, your statistic on 50% of people who enter an abortion clinic are wrong. There are many reasons to keep abortion legal and femminsim is not one of them.
By Scott on Oct 31, 2008
Jessica refers to the babies that die in those clinics. As some mothers die too, actually less than 50% come out alive.
By Hero on Nov 1, 2008
You go girl (Jessica) There is no good reason for abortion SCOTT
By Julie on Nov 1, 2008
Abortion is murder and is ALWAYS WRONG. It belongs no where in our civilized society. It is the scourge og America. Until we respect life at every stage , nothing will go right in this country. I agree 100% with Jessica.
By susan on Nov 2, 2008
so are you for or against it???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By joey on Nov 3, 2008
according to the libertarian party’s platform, it doesn’t matter what you think, you all have the right to decide what’s right for you…
“1.4 Abortion
Recognizing that abortion is a sensitive issue and that people can hold good-faith views on all sides, we believe that government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration.”
therefore, shouldn’t we leave roe v. wade in place, allowing us to make our own decisions?
By amanda on Nov 3, 2008
I for one think abortion is good! My girlfriend has had to do it three times now! and it’s been workin for us!
By William on Nov 3, 2008
It is Monday November 3rd and I was looking for an alternative to the lame republican presidential candidate, so I came here to find out who Bob Barr is, hoping to be able to vote for him. I like the limited government approach that the lib. party takes, but to say that government has not place in the abortion argument, after the courts have overreached and already played a huge role, is simply unacceptable. I must agree with Jess on this one, Bob Barr is dodging the question.
By Kevin on Nov 3, 2008
Actually Jessica’s statistic is true. She said 50% of the people who go into abortion clinics come out alive. That is a VERY true statement, as each woman who goes in, is carrying a life inside her that DOESN’T come out. Peace.
By Matt on Nov 3, 2008
Honestly, if you’re not OK with the idea that the government shouldn’t be involved for or against abortion, then the Libertarian party really isn’t for you. Stay with one of the Big Two parties that will run your life (and everyone elses) for you.
By Frankly on Nov 3, 2008
I want no government official, body, or party telling me what I can or can’t do with my body. How a person feels, personally, about abortion shouldn’t even be entered into the equation. Your opinion is just that: opinion.
Do I agree with abortion? No, I don’t. But I stand firm that no one on this planet should be able to decide what happens to my body but ME.
By Hel on Nov 3, 2008
I personally think Abortion is ok.
If you arent able to take care of a child or if the mother is having issues with the baby, why not have an abortion?
I dont think giving it up for adoption is a better way of dealing with the issue either.
But thats just me.
But for the record, Abortion percent rate has reduced.
And I dont blame Marr for dodgeing this issue, a lot of people dont like talking about it.
Anywhos, Hope all of yall that can vote do!!
By Whitney on Nov 3, 2008
No buddy should say what a women wants to do. If you do not like abortions dont get one. I hate people who try to run other peoples lives. You should chose how to run your life. a life doesnt start untill its born. And for people who say their is no reason for abortion how about a life that cant be lived what if the child is born disabled unable to move or speak or anything siting in a chair for 60 + years is not my idea of life. or rape how are u going to be able to live with knowing your child was because of a crime. how do u explain when that kid is 7 or 8 where their father is. ABORTIONS FOR ALL
By ALEXM1288 on Nov 4, 2008
I don’t agree with the Libertarian stance, as it is about the protection of the life inside the body. Government is supposed to protect the liberties of all humans - that includes the unborn life of a human in the womb. Pro-Choice advocates want us to believe that the child is part of them therefore they can decide what to do. But the truth is, the mother is nuturing a life inside of her, and a child is no more dependant on the mother in the womb as it is outside of the womb. A child would not survive in nature without his mother. But even if you try to argue that point, partial-birth abortion is just plan murder - if anyone has ever bothered to learn how the procedure is performed.
By Ray on Nov 4, 2008
that is so wrong
By hi on Nov 4, 2008
I agree a side should not be chosen all those who say that they believe in God argue that the government needs to pick a side on the matter. Well if your such a Christian don’t you believe that in the long run God will make your final decision if you opt for abortion?
By Me on Nov 4, 2008
It should, along with just about every other issue, be up to the individual. If you belive an abortion is neccesary then get one. If you belive that they are wrong than you should boycott and do what you will with your child. If a person can not handle that amount of care-giving or a body cannot physicaly stand it, that is a persons Rights. Even a minor of 17 has no real rights, and a non-entity has even less.
By Brandon on Nov 4, 2008
I believe the woman has the right to choose and our government should not have any say in the matter. I also think it is easier for men to be pro-life because they cannot possibly understand what it is like to be pregnant… Why should a woman be mandated to carry a baby that she A. Does not want or B. May be a health risk to have? In the particular instance where health risk is a factor, why is the life of an unborn child more valuable than a living breathing woman who is carrying the baby around? Are you condeming the woman to possibly death when her life may be spared? In the case of accidental pregnancies and rape…why should a woman is forced to have a baby she does not want? I’m not suggesting this as an alternative to birth control but there’s no guarantee the child will be safe even if she does have it. Are those of you who are pro life going to take in and care for and cloth and feed allll of the unwanted children of the world? Obviously not or else you wouldn’t hear stories of newborn babies being left in dumpsters and other horrendous places all because they may not have the option to choose.
By MARIA on Nov 4, 2008
since when did murder become a choice?
By sincere on Nov 4, 2008
My child was terminal and carried full term to his short one hour life after delivery. If I had known the outcome ahead of time I dont know if i would have done things any different, but I would have had a choice. To this day my mother cries uncontrollably on the day of his birth, I had to explain to hundreds of clients and friends “Oh you had the baby!”, “well yes, but he past away”. You dont get invited to many baby showers after losing a baby, trust me. Not to mention Years of therapy for me. You can take your stand on Pro life, but dont impose it on me. And the government doesnt need to get involved with it either. I’m glad to see that Bob Barr takes the high road on this topic!
Maybe “sincere” can tell us all how many children he/she has adopted? I would guess by your comment that you have at least 15 unwanted or neglected children in your care. Good for you! You’ve earned the right to call people stuck with a tough choice “murderers”. Yay!
On to the next topic! Happy Election Day everyone.
By smarty pants on Nov 4, 2008
So many people are missing the point here. It doesn’t matter where Bob Barr personally stands on abortion. He’s not advocating federal involvement one way or the other. The Libertarian party is not about big government. If you can’t get comfortable with that, then vote for whichever major party happens to be on your side and maybe you’ll get lucky.
By Emily on Nov 5, 2008
Abortion is indeed for the mother to decide. Their choice…not my problem.
By Tadd on Nov 7, 2008
What many of you are missing is that yes, a zygote is life, but it is not a human being (yet) and thus does not have rights (yet). It is a parasite (the correct word — look it up) within its mother’s body, and thus has no rights. Once it could, at least theoretically, live on its own — somewhere around the 20th week of gestation — it acquires a right to life. Until then, regardless of the undesirability of abortion for a number of reasons, it is not murder.
By Billy on Nov 7, 2008
Whoever said that 50% of people that walk in to an abortion clinic come out alive needs to check their facts. What kind of abortion clinics have YOU been to or heard of? My best friend had an abortion and it probably saved her life. She was raped and would have become depressed and probably worse things would have happened had it not been for what had took place. It would be a world of reliving hell for her with her mom finding out and police reports and all kinds of time consuming pain.
By m on Nov 21, 2008
p.s. Did I mention, ignorance is bliss???
Hahahaha
For the time being, this is resolved, good luck with your lives with or without abortion everyone! Hopefully you’ll never need to get one, wouldn’t that be coincidental?
By m on Nov 21, 2008
ABORTION=MURDER!!!! There is no gey area here. Your are either for it or against it. So, where do you stand?
By Tim O'Toole on Oct 7, 2009
Reference Billy’s message…I must respectfully disagree with you. Once the baby is conceived it is a life. No one has the right to play God.
By Tim O'Toole on Oct 8, 2009
You went around the topic a little.
I wish you would say what your personal beliefs are. I am pro-choice. I believe it is a woman’s right to decide whether to give birth or not.
By Constance on Oct 27, 2009
The entire basis of the Libertarian party is individual responsibility. You are responsible for you and your decisions are yours. You own you. If that is too much freedom for some of you to handle, perhaps this is the wrong party for you.
